Do these gifs accurately describe your life?
Yes? What If I told you there was a prairie that is actually inside of Westside Campus!
BUT WAIT!
I know you're super excited to head out there!
but we should go over some safety rules!
Don't worry this will be super quick!
First things first!
Lets talk about what to wear.
But what's so dangerous about a prairie?
Bees! Sunburns! Fire Ants! Poison Ivy! Wolves?
Let's talk about Bees!
Wolf Prairie has quite a few bees, well actually a lot..BUT don't let that scare you bees are actually pretty cool my awesome friend Zully made an entire page on Bees so go check that out for more information on them!
How to be safe around Bees!
How to act around bees! |
How to NOT act around bees! |
Avoid the bees! Bees are very friendly creatures when you leave them alone and let them do their thing. The worst thing you can do when a bee flies around your head is swat at it. What would you do if someone took a swing at you? If a bee, wasp, or hornet comes near you, just take a deep breath and stay calm. It's just trying to determine if you are a flower or some other item useful to it, and once it realizes you're just a person, it will fly away.

You can not become immune to bees! BUT you can avoid a situation like this by not messing with the bees in the prairie, also Avoid wearing brightly colored clothing, especially floral prints. Be careful what you eat outdoors. Don't wear perfumes or colognes. Stay still.

What about dangerous Plants?
What are dangerous plants?
Well we have Poison Ivy, Poison Oak, hemlock, etc.
But don't worry you only have to worry about poison
ivy in Wolf Prairie!
YOU DONT KNOW HOW TO IDENTIFY POISON IVY?
you're welcome.
"What do I do if I touched poison ivy?"
you're going to need to cut off what it touched....
I'M KIDDING, Go to the nurse But also heres a video on how to treat it!
To avoid Poison Ivy you need to know how to identify it!
Just remember Leaves of 3 let them be!
What do I do about insects?!?
THATS A GREAT QUESTION!
Let's talk about Mosquitos.
Mosquitos can carry diseases, be super annoying and can bite you without you even noticing! ( I got bit once on my forehead and never even noticed)
Sadly mosquitos aren't like bees, you can't just avoid them, they are LITERALLY out for your blood!
me neither, they're pointless!
The Only way to repel mosquitos is to use bug spray!
I would recommend using a natural bug repellent, but the one you buy at the store is also fine .
heres why using a natural bug repellent would be better http://wellnessmama.com/2565/homemade-bug-spray/
I know, I know we've gone over like a million rules and you must feel like this...
But this is the last one! and it's something we've all dealt with! and thats....
SUNBURNS!!!
We all hate them and we all know how to prevent them
with some SUNSCREEN!
I know it seems a little silly to be putting on sunscreen to go to the prairie, but if you know its a sunny day and you know you burn easily it's best to bring some especially if you're going to be out there for a few hours.
me too dude, me too!
