IN RECENT YEARS:
In more recent years, it has been discovered that the major of gulf-coastal prairie lands have been overtaken by human activity. There are many projects set up, much like the prairie restoration that occurs at Wolf Prairie, that, not only, give back to the environment and aid restoration, but preserve a history and an extremely significant ecosystem of the Texas-Louisiana border. http://www.nwrc.usgs.gov/prairie/paradise_lost.pdf
Photos were taken by the Westside Ecology Department, myself, and from http://gulfcoast.harc.edu/Biodiversity/Ecoregions/TexasLouisianaCoastalPlains/tabid/2256/Default.aspx

HOW CAN YOU HELP? You can easily get involved in prairie restoration at Westside High School, as well as many other places including Armand Bayou and the preserves set up there. Giving back to the environment could potential allow the plot of Gulf-Coastal prairie that sits on Westside to reach its full potential as a healthy and plentiful ecosystem. Helping to remove invasive species, add native species, clean up, and other activities that one would partake in while helping Ms. Klein to restore the beautiful land of the prairie.
